What type of questions should I ask at an Open House

Before touring a home, review the listing details, such as : the type of fuel used to heat the home, whether or not the home has public utilities or if the home has central air conditioning.

Other questions you can ask:

  • What is the age of the roof?
  • What is the expected lifespan of the roof? (20, 25, 30 or 50 years)
  • How many layers of roofing material are their? (Should only ever be 1 or 2)
  • How old are the current windows, water heater and boiler/furnace?
  • Are there any known water issues? (Leaks/damage)
  • Are there any property restrictions, such as an easement, wet lands or historic designations?
  • Have any improvements been made by the current owner?
  • If there is a septic system, when was it last pumped and where is it located on the property?
